The Origin of the Hamburger

You may have heard that Hamburg, Germany, the place where the first hamburger was created. While the inspiration for the burger came from Hamburg, the sandwich concept was invented later. For its part, the concept of minced meat is probably much older than the Hamburg hamburger.

There are versions where they say that Mongolian horsemen first ate a type of beef, steak tartar, in the 12th century. What could be the predecessor of the hamburger?

Most stories about the origin of the hamburger are that, in the 19th century, beef was minced and combined with garlic, onion, salt and pepper in Germany.

This meat was then formed into balls to make hamburger steaks. These early hamburgers were considered gourmet and were quite expensive, given the quality of the meat from hamburgers. This style of meat came to the United States thanks to the migration of Germans to the American continent.

During the Industrial Revolution, factory workers ate this Hamburg steak from food carts. Since it was difficult to eat them standing up, a cook placed the meat between two slices of bread. Thus, the Hamburg sandwich, an evolution boosted the popularity of this food throughout the country.
